বীর উত্তম শহীদ মাহবুবুর রহমান ১৯৪৪ সালে দিনাজপুর জেলার নবাবগঞ্জ থানার ভাদুরিয়া ইউনিয়নের পলাশবাড়ী গ্রামে জন্ম গ্রহণ করেন। তার পিতার নাম মোঃ তসির উদ্দিন। তিনি অধ্যাপনা করতেন।খোকা নামে চঞ্চলমতি অধ্যাপক তনয় ১৯৬৬ সালে ঢাকার ডেন্টাল কলেজে লেখাপড়া করতেন। এ সময় হটাত করে লেখাপড়া ছেড়ে দিয়ে ১৯৬৯ সালে পাকিস্তান সেনাবাহিতে যোগদান করেন। ১৯৭১ সালে স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের সময় তিনি ছিলেন কুমিল্লা সেনানিবাসি । যুদ্ধ শুরুর প্রথম পর্যায়ে ২ এপ্রিল পর্যন্ত তিনি অবস্থান করেছিলেন ঢাকায়। নিরীহ বাঙ্গালী জাতীর উপর পাকিস্তানি হানাদারের পাশবিক অত্যাচারও গর্ব তার। অমানবিক দৃশ্য দেখে নিজেকে আর ধরে রাখতে পারলেন না। তিনি অস্ত্র হাতে তুলে নিলেন।
